New US-funded HIV/AIDS prevention program begins

>> Kamis, 01 April 2010

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Thursday launched a new five year HIV/AIDS prevention program in Indonesia.

The project, entitled Scaling Up for Most-at-risk Populations, is part of a US$35 million effort from the US Government to assist the Government of Indonesia in curbing HIV/AIDS transmission.

A second project focused on NGO capacity building for HIV/AIDS is also anticipated to be awarded, the US Embassy said in a statement through its Web site.

The two projects will work in combination and in partnership with the Government of Indonesia under the umbrella of the National Strategic Action Plan for HIV/AIDS 2010–2014.

Project efforts will center on eight provinces: West Java, Central Java, East Java, Riau, North Sumatra, Papua and West Papua, and DKI Jakarta.
